Continued improvements at the sanctuary
Thanks to your generous support, additional funding by NAVS and the hard work of the staff at Kindness Ranch, Henry's Landing now has a beautiful new floor, creating an even softer landing for the beagles who will soon begin their new lives there.
Henry's Landing serves as the first stop for dogs arriving at Kindness Ranch. It is a temporary transition space where they can decompress from their ordeal, receive a warm bath, enjoy a nourishing meal, and receive any medical care they need before moving into one of the ranch's dog yurts. There, they live with a dedicated caretaker and up to 10 other dogs while they continue to heal and prepare for adoption.
The new flooring will make it easier for staff to keep the space clean, safe, and sanitary while providing the dogs with a more comfortable and reassuring environment during their first days at the ranch. It also creates greater flexibility for Kindness Ranch, allowing Henry's Landing to serve as a longer-term housing option when the yurts are at capacity. This increased capacity means the ranch can welcome even more dogs into its care, giving more former research animals the opportunity to begin their journey toward a life filled with compassion, comfort, and love.

It tells the story of how one former research beagle changed a life—and how welcoming a former research dog into your home can be a truly transformative experience. For many people, it is through meeting a former research beagle that they first learn these dogs are used in research. It is also through that relationship that they come to understand the remarkable resilience, gentleness, and capacity for love these extraordinary animals possess.
Most significantly, Henry's Landing reflects the compassion and thoughtfulness that Executive Director John Ramer and the staff at Kindness Ranch extend to every animal in their care and to every adopter they welcome into the Kindness Ranch family. Naming this special place after Henry was a deeply meaningful gesture. It ensured that the first Kindness Ranch beagle who changed my life in countless ways would leave a lasting legacy—one that will continue to welcome and comfort every new dog as they begin their own journey toward healing, hope, and home.
As the ranch welcomes new animals into its care, we can all take comfort in knowing that each and every one will have a soft landing. Animals that were once known only by a number will now be seen as individuals—treated with compassion, cared for with dedication, and loved for who they are.
And that the day they arrive at Kindness Ranch, truly, is the first day of the rest of their lives.
