Visiting Kindness Ranch

We welcome supporters, volunteers, and adopters to our 1,000-acre sanctuary in rural Wyoming. Plan your journey to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip.

Important: Remote & Winter Travel Notice

Kindness Ranch is located in a remote, rugged area of Wyoming. Cell service can be unreliable on rural roads, and weather conditions change rapidly — especially during late fall, winter, and early spring.

  • A 4WD / AWD vehicle with good tire tread is strongly recommended from October through April due to snow, ice, and mud.
  • Check local road closures via WYDOT (WYORoads) before driving out.
  • Download offline maps before leaving major highways, as GPS navigation can drop.

Trip Planning & Preparation

Wyoming winters feature high winds, blowing snow, freezing temperatures, and sudden road closures. If traveling between November and April:

  • Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle (blankets, water, non-perishable snacks, flashlight, and shovel).
  • Keep your fuel tank at least half full at all times.
  • Check WYORoad.info or call 511 for live road conditions before heading out.
  • Call us before leaving if severe weather is forecasted so we can confirm road status into the ranch.

Because Kindness Ranch is a working sanctuary and rehabilitation center, all visits must be scheduled in advance to protect the safety and well-being of our animals and caretakers.

  • Adoption meet-and-greets and tours require prior confirmation.
  • Please do not bring personal pets onto the sanctuary grounds without prior approval from our staff.
  • Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes suitable for walking on unpaved or muddy terrain.

Hartville and surrounding areas are small, rural communities. Gas stations and grocery stores may have limited hours:

  • Fuel Up Early: Fill your tank in Wheatland, Guernsey, or Torrington before heading toward the sanctuary.
  • Dining & Lodging: Guernsey and Wheatland offer lodging and dining options if you are staying overnight in the area.
