Rascal

Rascal 87
Rascal is a sweet little guy who is still looking for a family to call his own. This six-year-old cutie is shy with new people, but once he warms up to you he will never leave your side! He loves playing and hanging out with other dogs, and enjoys short outings on the leash - in nice weather, of course! Rascal does get nervous of loud noises and fast movements, so he would probably be most comfortable in a home with older or no children, but he would really like to have a friendly, confident dog friend who can show him the ropes of life outside the lab. We think Rascal would be happiest in a quieter home where his new family will spend plenty of time working with him to help build his confidence and enjoy life to the fullest. We know he can thrive in just the right home, and we can’t wait for them to find him!

Octavia

Octavia 22 Octavia is a sociable and lovable girl who really knows how to ham it up. She loves to visit with people, and will even push other dogs out of the way to get to them! This eight-year-old cutie is very food motivated, which is great for training, though she does not want to share with other dogs. Octavia has done well with her crate training, and is very comfortable spending some quiet time or even the night there. She also enjoys going for walks, or just hanging out in the back yard with her favorite people. She prefers the company of adults and can be uncomfortable around children, so she would probably do best in a home with older or no kids. And even though most of our dogs do better when there is another dog in the home, we think Octavia would be fine as the only dog. She likes to be the center of attention, and will need a family who can spend a lot of time with her. She is a lot of fun to have around, and would probably love to participate in a training class with her people. She will make a great companion for one very lucky family!

Violet

Violet 18 *Violet was adopted in February 2017 by Rachel from Riverton, WY. Violet will be her only dog and we wish them many happy years and fun advetures together!

Violet is a happy and friendly girl who likes to visit with people, and especially loves to cuddle. She really likes other dogs, but can get overwhelmed when they get too rowdy. She would love to have a gentle canine friend in her new home to teach her the ropes. Like most beagles, Violet loves food, but she is still learning how to take treats nicely. Meal time is very exciting, and we use food puzzles to slow down her eating and exercise her brain! This seven-year-old girl is walking well on the leash, but gets distracted at times and needs coaxing to keep moving forward. We think this sweet girl could do well in any home that has lots of attention to give her, with or without other dogs, and could probably learn to love living with children, too!

Linus

Linus 90 *Linus was adopted in March 2017 by Leroy and Judy from Casper, WY. They visited the ranch with a different dog in mind, but Linus stole their hearts! He will be the only pooch in their home, but he will get to travel with them everywhere they go, even to work!

Have you ever heard the term “too smart for his own good”? Well that’s exactly what Linus is! This happy-go-lucky beagle boy is having a ball here at the ranch, learning just how great life outside the lab really is! At seven years old, this friendly boy is past his puppy years, but he hasn’t slowed down yet. He spends his days playing with the big dogs, learning fun new tricks to show off, and figuring out every food puzzle that he’s given. Anyone who knows beagles knows they’ll do anything for food, and Linus is no exception! He also loves going for walks, meeting new people, and adventuring in new places, and he hopes to find a family who will keep him busy with all of the things he enjoys. Linus might be happier as the only dog in the home, since he does not like to share his things, but he may be able to live with other easy-going dogs who don’t mind his occasional attitude. He also tried living in an apartment once and did not enjoy it, so he’s asked us to help him find a house with a yard where he can play every day. We know this boy will make a lucky family very happy, and we hope they find him here soon!

Newman

Newman 99 *Newman was adopted in January 2017 by Cara and Spencer from Denver, CO. Newman will be joining their other dog, Duke, at his new home, where they plan to spend lots of time getting pets, napping, and taking leisurely walks around the neighborhood.

Newman is a sweet and easy-going boy who wants nothing more than for someone to love him. This gentle giant lives for the affection of his favorite people and will always seek you out for pets and cuddles. At seven-years-old, this big beagle boy is well beyond the puppy stage – although having spent most of his life in a research lab, he still has quite a lot to learn about the big, wide world. Newman is getting along well with all of the dogs he currently lives with, especially his best friend, Abel, and we think he would enjoy having another calm canine friend in his new home. Although, we’re sure he’d be just as happy to have all the attention to himself! This lovable guy will make a great addition to just about any family with the time and patience to show him how fun being a family pet can be, and we hope that family finds him soon!

Ty

Ty 001 *Ty was adopted in October 2016 by Lisa and Sylvain in nearby Lingle, Wyoming. He joins a canine sister, Nala, at his new home and we wish them many fun years of adventures together!

Ty may be a little bit shy when you first meet him, but once he warms up to you, you’ll have a new best friend for life! Ty is a very affectionate and loving dog, and he loves when his favorite people come to visit him – especially if the visit includes belly rubs! This two-year-old loves to play with other dogs and is very easy to walk on a leash, and he is a visitor favorite here at the ranch. A handsome but unique dog, we don’t know exactly what breeds Ty might be, but we do know that he’s as sweet a dog as you’ll ever meet! With just a little patience and understanding, and lots of love, we know that Ty will make a wonderful addition to just about any family!

Ally

Ally bow

*Ally was adopted in February 2017 by Lindsay and Davis, who drove all the way from Oregon to meet her and take her home! Ally will be joining their other beagle, Bear, at their home near Portland, and we wish them all a happily ever after!

Ally is a sweet but shy little girl who is looking for just the right place to call home. While we help her look, she is living the good life in a fabulous foster home where she has been experiencing all of the wonderful things life outside the lab has to offer. Ally has slowly but surely been coming out of her shell, and especially seems to feel safe in the company of other dogs. After three months with her foster, they have reported that she would probably do better in a quieter home since she gets anxious when there is a lot of commotion and is still uncomfortable around strangers. But when it is quiet and calm, she likes to just be around her favorite people, laying near them while they work, read, watch TV, knit, or do whatever else passes the time. But Ally is not all couch potato, and she also loves going out for runs or hikes – especially in the snow! – and at three years old, she definitely still has a lot of energy to burn! This special girl will need a very patient and understanding family who will let her work things out at her own pace, and who ideally has another friendly and confident dog to help her along. We can't wait to see what her future holds!

*Ally is currently in a foster home in Lafayette, Colorado. Please contact us for more information regarding adopting from foster.

April

April 2884 *April was adopted in October 2016 by Sheri from Longmont, CO. April shares her new home with Sheri, a beagle sister, Twinkie, and two cats.

April is a sweet senior lady who would love nothing more than to find a loving family to spend her time with. At ten years old, this friendly girl is dealing with a few health issues, but nothing that can’t be managed easily – and she certainly doesn’t let it get to her! She has a great time exploring the back yard with the rest of the pups, and she still loves to jump up onto benches, couches, and anywhere else her little legs can get her. April is about as cute as they come and the staff at the ranch has quickly fallen in love with her. She will do great with any family who can appreciate the needs of an older gal but realizes that she still has lots of love and smiles to give!

Boomer

Boomer 09 *Boomer was adopted in October 2016 by Diane and Bruce from Woodland Park, CO. They only intended to adopt one beagle, but wound up taking two home, so Boomer is sharing his home with another KR beagle, Sarge!

Boomer is a happy-go-lucky beagle boy who is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face! At seven years old, this guy is showing no signs of slowing down, and is always ready for the next adventure. Boomer thinks everyone is best-friend material – men, women, kids, and other dogs – you just have watch out when he catches sight of a bunny! He loves to go for walks and play in the back yard with his friends, and as long as he gets to spend time with his favorite people then he’s happy. Boomer gets pretty excited for visitors, meal time, and play time, and he’s not afraid to get loud about it. Because of this, Boomer would probably not do well in an apartment and will need a family who can appreciate his lovely beagle voice. He is a spunky young-at-heart dog who will make some family very lucky one of these days!

Milo

Milo 026 *Milo was adopted in July 2016 by Sandra and Bruce from Red Lodge, MT. They saw his picture online and knew that he would be a great addition to their dog-loving family! Milo will get all the activity, play time, dog friends, and attention that he needs to have a perfect happily ever after!

Milo is a handsome young guy with endless energy and the smarts to match. He will need a patient and dog-savvy family who can keep him busy and out of trouble, and he would be great at learning agility or another similar activity to help with this. Milo enjoys going for walks and playing with other dogs, and could really benefit from having a more mature and wiser dog around to teach him the ways of the world. He is a friendly guy who is always looking for something to do and he will need his new family to understand and appreciate the quirks of herding breeds. Milo will need a home with no small children, and he may not do well with cats, but he could find a best friend in another dog. This cutie has already learned sit, down, shake, and roll over, and would really like to lead a lifelong journey of learning. We know that Milo is going to make a great addition to a lucky family with lots of love to give!

Hank

Hank smile *Hank was adopted in March 2017 by Jacob and Art from Mills, WY. Hank is joining their four kids and two senior dachshunds in their home, so he will have lots of friends to keep him busy!

Hank is a fun-loving boy with a big personality and lots of love to give! This sweet boy can be a bit timid at times, but when he is comfortable it doesn’t take long for the puppy in him to come out. He is quite energetic and loves to play with toys and other easy-going dogs, and can often be found running zoomies in the backyard or wrestling with his friends. But what he likes more than anything is to hang out with his favorite people! Hank is currently spending his time here at the ranch learning all about living in a home and working on his manners. He is crate-trained and walks great on the leash, and he would love to find a family who will continue his training. Hank will need a home with no cats, but would probably enjoy having a canine sibling or two. Hank can’t wait for his new best friend to find him!

Brandy

Brandy 030
*Brandy was adopted in July 2016 and is now living happily ever after with her new human, Andy, in Laramie, WY.

Don’t let Brandy’s size fool you – she’s really just a giant puppy who believes there is no size restriction on being a lap dog. This sweet girl loves people and likes to play with other dogs, and will make a great addition to a home with an appreciation for big dogs who love to show love. She is currently learning all about living in a home, including how to walk nicely on a leash and the proper way to greet people and other dogs, and her new family should continue her training. Brandy will need a home with no cats, but will probably love to have canine siblings. She may also be a bit too boisterous for small children, but this could be worked on depending on the situation. Brandy is quickly becoming a staff favorite, and we know that she will make somebody a great companion!

Hannah

Hannah 288

*Hannah is currently out on a trial adoption*

Hannah is a smart and active dog who will need a very special person in her life to help her reach her full potential. This almost-two-year-old is looking for someone who knows all about the needs of a clever and high-energy dog and is willing and able to keep her busy. We know this girl will be great at agility or other fun activities where she gets to work one-on-one with her favorite person! She loves to get out and about and to go for walks, and would make a great adventure dog for an experienced and attentive handler. Hannah would be happy soaking up all the attention as an only dog, or living with fun canine friends who will put up with her antics, but she will need a home with no cats or other small critters. We know that the perfect family for Hannah is out there, and we sure hope they find her soon!

Moose

Moose 294 *Moose was adopted in July 2016 by James and Amy, who drove 3 hours from Gillette, WY, to meet him! He joined their two rescued Basset Hound girls and will get to enjoy his senior years being pampered and loved!

“You can’t keep a good dog doowowown,” sings Moose! Despite his years in laboratory nutrition trials he remains the definition of a happy-go-lucky guy. Moose is enthusiastic about meeting both people and other animals, and even at ten years old he enjoys the occasional outdoor adventure. He is also living peacefully with other dogs, cats, and even chickens in his foster home. Moose thought he had found a fur-ever home but when he was left bored and lonely in the backyard all day he became restless and started hitting the streets to find someone to keep him company. His family did not want to keep him inside while they were away and so they returned him to Kindness Ranch so he can find people whose lifestyle is a better fit. His foster family says he is content to stay home when he has a person nearby but will likely dash off to greet new friends (and EVERYBODY is a new friend) if left unsupervised outside. Even after this turn of bad luck you won’t catch him feeling sorry for himself, he knows someone out there has a little Moose-shaped hole in their life and he can’t wait to bump into them!

Bruce

Bruce 774 Bruce is a friendly and happy little guy who loves hanging out with his canine roommates and goofing around in the back yard. He can be a little shy with new people at first, but it doesn’t take long for this two-year-old to warm up. Along with his new beagle friends, he has learned a lot about crate training, house training, and leash-walking, but his new family will have to help him keep working on these things! He will also need a patient family who will take time to introduce him to all sorts of new things in this world, since there is so much he still hasn’t experienced. Bruce can be quite independent and we think he would be happy as an only pet or as part of a pack – as long as he can get his fair share of the attention!

Wade

Wade 723 **Wade is now in the care of our rescue partner, BeFreegle Foundation, in New York.

Wade is a sweet and independent dog who is looking for a family to call his own. This 3-year-old boy can be a bit shy at times, but it isn’t taking him long to figure out that people can be a lot of fun! Wade loves to run around the yard and wrestle with the other dogs – though he can be a little bossy sometimes – and we think he’d be just as happy as an only dog as he would be with some fun, easy-going canine siblings. We are currently working with him on leash-walking, crate training, and house training, but he will need his new family’s help to keep up the good work! Just like many other beagles, Wade can be quite vocal, though we know that won’t be a problem for the many beagle-lovers out there! We know that the perfect family for Wade will come along soon, and that he will be everything they are looking for in a new furry family member!

Parker

Parker 022 Parker is an energetic and bouncy boy who is having a great time at the ranch hanging out with his beagle buddies and discovering what kind of trouble he can get into. This friendly 3-year-old boy loves everyone – adults, kids, dogs, cats – and is always looking to get more attention! He loves having canine siblings and would be great company for other dogs who love to run and play. Like many beagles, Parker loves the sound of his own voice and would do best in a home where the neighbors don’t mind him showing it off. As with all of our new dogs, we are currently working with him on house training, crate training, walking on a leash, and learning manners. Of course, these are all things that his new family will have to continue working on, but he has already come a long way! Oliver

Oliver 775
*Oliver was transferred to our rescue partners, BeFreegle Foundation in New York, in October 2016. He will be fostered by one of their volunteers until he finds the perfect home!

Oliver is a friendly and active 6-year-old boy who is usually the first to meet and greet visitors at the front door. He loves getting ear scratches from anyone who will oblige and will happily roll over for belly rubs when the opportunity presents itself. He can be a little bit nervous of men at first, but it usually doesn’t take long to win him over – and food always helps! This energetic and curious boy would do best with a patient and experienced adopter who is well-versed in beagle antics and doesn’t mind a little trouble-making now and again. He doesn’t mean to be trouble, of course – he just has a lot of exploring to do in this world to make up for all the time he missed! Oliver is currently spending his time at the ranch learning all about living in a home, including working on house training, crate training, and walking nicely on a leash. He sometimes has a hard time making canine friends, and may be more comfortable as the only dog in his home. But this beagle boy is full of energy, with a little sass thrown in for fun, and he’d make a great addition to just the right family!

Etta 08 *Etta was adopted in July 2016 by Denise, a Kindness Ranch Seasonal Volunteer who fell in love with her during her 6-week session. They are living happily ever after with Bindi, another KR dog that Denise adopted at the same time!

Etta has been at Kindness Ranch for a few months, and this shy girl still has a lot to learn. She is currently working on housetraining, crate training, walking on a leash, and learning how to trust people. Etta has a great time with her beagle friends here at the ranch, but she still has a lot of room to grow in her interactions with people. Clark

clark

This good-looking young man is just about as Beagle-y as they come! Since joining the Kindness Ranch pack just before New Years’, Clark has really come out of his shell and is making the most of his time here. He has made friends with all of the other dogs at the ranch and is not intimidated by the larger, bouncier, or louder dogs that surround him. Clark is still learning how to trust new people, though, and needs a little bit of time before he will visit with strangers - but once he comes around he’s quit the persistent lap dog! Clark is also a very curious boy and loves to check out all of his surroundings - even if it means he has to climb to do it! Because he has a beautiful Beagle singing voice, we don’t think Clark would do well in an apartment or condo, and would need to have very understanding neighbors who appreciate his talents (or at least don’t mind them). We know that some lucky family will fall in love with Clark soon, and we are so excited for them to find each other!

Chloe

chloe1

Chloe is a firecracker of a dog, with a ton of personality carried around in her little Pug/Beagle body! This energetic two-year-old definitely keeps us on our toes here at the ranch with all of her shenanigans, and though she is endlessly entertaining, we know that she would be so very happy in a home of her own. Chloe loves to play with other dogs – and play, and play, and play! – but she’s also good about settling down into her own crate at nap time. As our resident “wild child,” Chloe still has a lot to learn about minding her manners and learning how to take no for an answer, but we know that with the right experienced family she could thrive! Chloe would do best in a home with older or no children, but she could easily live with other dogs – as long as she gets her fair share of the attention! If you are looking to add a little excitement and energy to your days, you don’t need to look any further than Chloe!

BJ

BJ 895 *BJ was adopted in July 2016 by a family from nearby Torrington, WY. Derrick, Susanna, and 6-year-old Xavier decided that BJ was just the right dog for their family after Derrick met him while doing some work at the ranch. Now BJ is their only spoiled pet - just the way he always imagined!

BJ is a friendly and gentle pup who is looking for a best human friend to spend his life with! This two-year-old boy came to Kindness Ranch just after finishing treatment for heartworm disease, and so far he is having a blast making up for all the missed play time! BJ loves spend time with his favorite people, whether they are playing in the back yard or cuddling up for a nap. He also enjoys going for walks and is slowly working on building up his endurance for longer adventures.

BJ has recently gone on a few sleepovers with our guests, and they have reported that he was a perfect gentleman in the house. He does well with older, calm children, but will need a home with no kitties. BJ sometimes enjoys playing with other dogs, but they can make him a little nervous at times so we think he might prefer to be the only dog in his home. BJ’s absolute favorite thing is to spend time with people, and we’re hoping that he can find a family whose absolute favorite thing is to spend time with him! And with this boy’s charming personality and perfect puppy-dog eyes, we know it won’t be long until he finds just that!

Red

Red sweater sm*Red was adopted in May of 2016 and is now living with her new family in Torrington, WY.

Red is a dog with a mission – a mission to find the most perfect, the softest, the fluffiest, and the most comfortable bed there is! Any ideas where she could start looking? This beautiful girl knows that she deserves the best and will accept nothing less – and in exchange, she will give nothing less than all the love that one dog can give! Red is not always comfortable with other dogs or cats – besides her partner-in-crime, BJ – but she offers so much to her favorite people that one dog is all you could want! This two-year-old loves to go for walks and play around in the house chasing toys, but she’s also great at cuddling and would make great company for those all-day movie binges on the couch. We are already in love with this sweet, happy girl here at the ranch, and we know that a great family will come along soon and love her just as much!

Snip

Snip 3887

*Snip was adopted in January 2017 by Jason from Casper, WY. Snip will now get to join Jason's other dog, Joon Bug, and his three kids on all of their adventures!

Snip may be a little guy but he has a huge heart! Everyone at the ranch loves having him around, but at five years old and after a few false starts, he is ready to settle into a family of his very own. Though a bit shy at first, once you get to know him, and he you, you will forever be in love with this sweet little gem of a dog. Snip is past his puppy phase and is looking for a family and canine siblings to spend his days with. He came from his previous home with his sister, Zoey, and they are a great ready-made pair for a home with room for two!

Whether you take a nice walk, watch a movie, or play in the yard, Snip won't be too far away. It always brings a smile to our staff members’ faces to see his little nose waiting in the window for a visitor. Snip has shown some separation anxiety in the past and will do best in a home with other dogs, and would comfortably settle into a stable pack of any size. If you are looking for an easy companion to add to your family, Snip could be the one for you. Snip reminds us of an old friend and he is patiently waiting to make some new ones- could it be you?

Sadie

Sadie 88

Sadie is a big love-bug of a dog who wants nothing more than a good meal, some play time outside, and to hang out with her people. This sweet hound mix has perfected her puppy-dog eyes and uses them every chance she gets! She's also known for rolling over for belly rubs at every opportunity and jumping up to give great hugs. At just two years old, Sadie still has a lot to learn about life as a dog, but she is a smart girl and we know that she will figure it all out with the right family to teach her. She already walks well on a leash and is working on learning basic commands, and we are sure that she would love to learn more! She can be a little possessive of her things around other dogs, so she would do best in a home where her crate training will be put to proper use – but don't worry, she likes having her own bedroom all to herself! Sadie also has some experience as an office dog here at the ranch and would make a great companion for someone who works at home. We know the perfect family for Sadie is out there somewhere, now they just have to find her!

Emmie

Emmie 003 Emmie is a shy but very sweet girl who loves other dogs, but is still learning how to trust people. She will need a very special and patient home where she will be given the time and care she needs to start to come out of her shell. She loves her caretakers here at the ranch and wants to cuddle whenever they are around, and we know that she would love to find a family of her very own to spend time with. This two-year-old hound likes to go for walks, but will need a lot of practice walking in busy or noisy places, or around strangers, because these things are still scary for her. Emmie also has a blast playing in the yard with all of the other dogs, and we think she would do best in a home with a canine friend to show her the ropes – maybe even one of her sisters, Ellie or Sadie! A kind family who can show Emmie that life with people can be pretty great has to be out there somewhere – maybe it's you!

Ellie

Ellie 88

Ellie is a curious and active young hound who can't wait to find a home of her very own! This girl is having a blast at the ranch spending time with her sisters, the other dogs, and all the people, and we know she'll be even happier once her forever family comes for her. Ellie can be a bit shy with new people at first, but she is a very affectionate dog who loves to give and receive hugs whenever possible. She also loves to play with toys and other dogs, and we know that having an even-tempered, patient canine friend would help this almost-two-year-old learn a lot. Ellie is always first through an open door and her little hound nose can lead her into trouble at times, but with a family who will guide her in the right direction, we know she'll do just fine. A little training will go a long way with this smart girl, and in fact, we think she'd enjoy just about any activity you could find that would help her burn off some energy and bond with her new people! Ellie would make a great fit in any home with the time to spend and the love to give – hopefully she will find that home soon!

Lucy

Lucy 6748 1

Lucy is a sweet, people-loving dog who is guaranteed to make you smile! Her tail almost never stops wagging, especially when she’s being talked to, and then it’s really more of a full-body wag. This two-year-old terrier mix enjoys going for walks and playing in the back yard with her canine friends, then coming inside and keeping herself busy with one of her favorite toys. She loves to hang out with her people and other relaxed dogs, and would even like to have a kitty friend or two. Lucy can be a bit shy with new people at first, and gets a little nervous when there is too much noise or commotion, but she is generally an easy-going dog and doesn’t let too much bother her. Lucy has been making the most of her time at the ranch by soaking up all the attention and perfecting her cuddling skills, and she is ready to find a family to share them with!

Harley

Harley 802

** Harley was adopted in April of 2016 and is living happily ever after in Rapid City, SD.

Harley may be a bit shy when you first meet her, but we promise that if you just give her a little bit of time she will be cuddling up to you in no time. This smart and energetic terrier mix is looking for a family who will keep her busy with lots of activities and training – in between nap times, of course. She loves to play with other dogs and go for walks, and could even make a great running buddy for the right person! Harley can be a bit vocal and you will always know when someone’s at the door, but unfortunately that means she may not do well in an apartment or condo. This four-year-old beauty is a visitor favorite at the ranch, where she is spending her time learning about living in a home and figuring out which is the best way to flip her cute ears to get what she wants. Harley will make a great addition to any cat-free, active family with lots of love to give!

Smalls

Smalls 004

Smalls is a sweet, shy, boy who is looking for just the right place to call home. This handsome six-year-old Beagle boy is a little cautious with new people at first, but once he has decided that you’re OK, he’ll become your little shadow. Smalls loves to go for walks and really enjoys playing with the other dogs – especially the girls! He can often be found hanging out or exploring the yard with his Beagle BFF, Timmy, as well. The ideal home for Smalls would be on the quieter side, where he will be allowed plenty of time and space to get used to new things on his own terms. Cats don’t bother him much, and we think he would be happy either as an only dog or with a few canine playmates – he’s not picky as long as he gets some love from his people! And we are hoping that he can find his people very soon!

Ross

Ross 013

Ross is just a young pup looking for some love, a little guidance, and a whole lot of play time! This 1-1/2-year-old hound mix has both beauty and brains, along with plenty of energy to help keep you on your toes. He loves to go for walks and play in the yard, and his ideal home would provide him with plenty of activity and companionship. Agility courses or nose work? Ross would say, "Yes, please!" Since he spent much of his young life in a lab, he can be a little worried about jumping into new situations, so he will need a family with the right amount of patience to help him through the tough situations. He can sometimes be selfish with food and toys, so he either needs to be the only apple of your eye, or with a person who has experience managing resource guarding. Ross is a goofy, affectionate puppy at heart, waiting for somebody to show him that life outside the lab is a blast!

Rachel has been at Kindness Ranch for a few months now, and though she has come a long way since her arrival, she can still be quite shy and timid with new people and new things. She is currently spending her time at the ranch learning all about living in a home, including how to choose the right toys, having fun walking on a leash, and which treats are the tastiest. This shy girl is also learning that this big world can be fun sometimes, and that people can actually be pretty cool when you give them a chance! Phoebe

Phoebe 09

Though there's no denying that she is quite the looker, Phoebe is much more than just another pretty face. This friendly girl is full of personality and loves making new friends, be they canine, human, feline, or anything else! Phoebe's best friend here at the ranch is Monica, and they would make a great duo for someone with room for two! At just two years old, Phoebe is still full of puppy antics and wide-eyed curiosity, and she is looking for a family who will help her learn about all the world has to offer. She can be a bit nervous when she first meets new people, but it usually doesn't take long to win her over, and then you'll have a friend for life. She loves to go for walks and nap in the sun, and is working on basic training so that she can impress her new family. And she really hopes they will keep teaching her new things! To top it all off, Phoebe is a master at cuddling, and she hopes that someone, somewhere has a couch with her name on it!

Monica

Monica 005 *Monica was adopted in July 2016 by Barb, who drove all the way from Gardnerville, NV, to meet her! Monica will have two canine brothers in her new home and has already started to let them know what the new rules of the house will be!

Don't let Monica's shy introduction fool you – she just needs a little time to warm up and then you'll have a new best friend! Though she is only three years old, Monica appears wise beyond her years, but believe us when we say there is a puppy hiding under that lovely red and white coat. This enthusiastic girl is also quite the talker and hopes that her new family appreciates her beautiful hound voice! She is looking for a family who can keep her busy with lots of play time, walks, and chew toys.

Monica can be a little timid in certain situations and will need some time to learn to trust new people in her life, but with some patience and TLC, this girl will blossom before your eyes! She loves to play and cuddle with the other dogs here at the ranch, and we think she would love to find a home with canine siblings. Because of her animated vocalizations, Monica probably should not live in an apartment or condo, and would prefer to have a nice big yard to romp around in. If you're a sucker for puppy-dog eyes and don't mind a dog who voices her opinions, Monica might be just the girl for you!

Chandler is a smart, people-loving dog looking for his new best friend! At 1-1/2 years old, he is still quite the puppy and is looking for just the right person to show him all the good the world has to offer. This handsome boy is learning all about living in a home while here at the ranch, including working on housebreaking, walking nicely on a leash, and most importantly – sharing! He can get possessive of his things sometimes and will need a confident, experienced adopter who will be able to continue his training and help him work on minding his manners and understanding boundaries. Chandler is best suited for a home without small children or cats, and though he usually gets along with other dogs, we think he would like to be the only dog in his home. Mr. Wrinkles is quite the curious type and is always on the hunt for a new adventure, so he would do best with an active family who can keep him busy in between his power naps. He loves to go for walks and play with stuffed animals, and he is currently working basic training. Mr. Wrinkles never misses meal time, will try anything to get a treat, and especially loves getting a yummy stuffed Kong before bed! This bouncy bundle of Beagle energy is sure to keep you on your toes! Patrick is an affectionate, people-loving dog who is looking for a family to call his very own. Lucy

Lucy2

Lucy, a 9-year-old beagle previously used in laboratory research, is on the hunt for her forever home! Lucy is a sweet and simple gal, who enjoys hanging with the staff and resting on a big squishy bed. Though she enjoys her beagle buddies at the ranch, she really loves her people, and hopes her new family will let her hang with them as they go about their day. Though a bit quiet and shy at first, Lucy is a love once she is comfortable. She enjoys going for walks, and hopes her new people will, as well. She would do well in a home with another quiet dog or cats, or even as the only pet. She is currently on thyroid medication, but we have high hopes that with a diet and exercise, this girl will eventually be able to live medication-free. Lucy deserves a great place to spend her senior years, and we know that she will find that place soon!

Coach

Coach2 1

Sweet Coach is a gentle soul previously used in laboratory research. This 8-year-old beagle mix is enjoying his time at the ranch, and is ready to find his new family. Coach likes the simple things in life: a good nap after he's made a nest out of blankets, chewing on rawhides, and going for a walk. He won't ask much of his new family - just lots of love, attention, and yummy cookies! Coach has recently begun medication to assist with his arthritis, but he doesn't let it slow him down! He hopes his new people love taking in the sights and smells of the great outdoors as much as he does. Coach does well with other dogs and cats, and could be okay with children who understand that his little legs are sometimes sore. Do you have room in your home for this little guy to live out his golden years?

Droopy

Droopy Run Fluffy tailed Droopy is a 7-year-old beagle mix previously used in laboratory research. This hunk of love enjoys chasing tennis balls, wrestling with his beagle buddy Snoopy, and gnawing on a rawhide. Droopy is known for his grunts of happiness, and the way he tips his head to hear what you are saying. Droopy loves everyone he meets, and would enjoy a home with another doggy friend to run around with. He would also be fine with children and cats. Though he is currently on thyroid medication, we are hoping that with some exercise and a little weight loss, this guy will no longer need to be on it. Droopy is hoping his new family will enjoy taking him for a stroll, and offer plenty of snuggles.

You can’t help but smile when you see this little guy running towards you for a good snuggle! Snoopy loves hanging with the sanctuary dogs in the yard, and would welcome a home with a buddy he could play with. He does well with dogs of all sizes, cats, and has never met a person he doesn’t like. Taking a nice walk is a favorite of Snoopy’s, and he loves exploring in the long grass and grunting his way through the smells of the earth. Do you have room in your life for this tiny bundle of love?

Tuff

Tuff3

Sweet Tuff is an old soul who loves taking naps, basking in the sun, and enjoying a yummy peanut butter Kong! This 6-year-old cutie was previously used in laboratory research, and is now content taking in the sights and sounds of the open plains at the ranch. Tuff is a gentle guy, who likes to sit back and survey the scene. His inquisitive expression once reminded a volunteer of a college professor! We think he would teach a class entitled Running Circles Outside, or How to Fall Asleep in the Strangest Positions. Tuff would fit in easily in most any home, and he enjoys the company of other animals - including cats - but could also be your only love. We love to see this little guy light up and wag his tail, and we’re hoping his new family can bring him the happiness he deserves!

Teva

Teva 1994 *Teva was adopted in March 2017 by Kari from Casper, WY. Kari has no other pets, so Teva will be the queen of her castle - just the way she likes it!

Meet Teva! This sweet hound girl is looking for a family who shares her interests - the outdoors, going for walks, taking naps, and of course, food! Whether out in the yard or on a hike, Teva loves to sniff and explore, and can spend hours taking in the scents outside. Teva would adore someone who appreciates her love for the outdoors, and hopes her new family will have plenty of time for daily walks and adventuring.

This 8-year-old is a staff favorite and is affectionately referred to as Teva the Diva - because she always gets what she wants! She most enjoys spending time with her people, and would love to find a quiet, cat-free home where the treats are abundant and the beds are always welcoming. Teva has been in a few different homes over the past several years, and unfortunately has not found her perfect match yet - but we know that the day will come when the right family will find her!

Jolly

jolly Who couldn’t use a little more happiness in their life?  Jolly is a goofy six-year-old Beagle who is always the life of the party and is guaranteed to make you smile!  When he is not busy enthusiastically greeting visitors into his home, this energetic boy loves to play in the yard with other dogs of all shapes and sizes.  He is also great at entertaining himself with any kind of ball toy he can find, and is always looking for the next fun thing to do.  Jolly even has a happy dance for every occasion – morning time, play time, food time, treat time, bed time – or is that not-bed-time-yet time?  Either way, Jolly is enjoying every moment of this life and would love his very own family to enjoy it with!

Kale

Kale4

Kale is an energetic sweetheart of a dog who is looking for a family to make him their one and only.  Since arriving at the ranch, six-year-old Kale has won over the hearts of staff and visitors alike with his cute face and affectionate ways.  Even though he is shy with new people at first, he rewards patience with kisses and cuddles, and loves to hang out with his people.  He likes to run and play in the yard, but since he does not enjoy the company of other dogs he would really like a family who will go out for playtime with him.  Kale is still working on housebreaking and leash-walking, but we know he can master them both in time.  Kale would love a home to call his very own, where he won’t have to share any of the attention – but with this boy in your life, one dog is all you will need!

Marty

MartySmile

Marty is a gentle, sweet, and sensitive soul. He will capture your heart the minute you meet him. He loves to be pet, loved, and treated gently in return. Marty has been in foster care for three months now adjusting to everyday life in Billings, MT. His foster parents say that his confidence has grown so much. He has also grown to love many people, where he once was too afraid to even walk by a person. Marty is a super special guy who is looking for an extra special family! Marty loves going for walks and hikes in the mountains. He is also a great running partner. Exercise is a very important part of his life as it helps ease his anxiety. Remember, our world is still pretty new to him! Marty also loves boating and tagging along on fishing and camping trips. He loves napping on the bed, couch, or one of the many comfy dog beds around the house. Marty currently shares his life with two foster doggie brothers. What's great is that he gets along with all dogs and loves to play! His tail is always wagging when he meets a dog that could be a new friend, and he would really love it if he had canine buddies in his new home. He is also good around cats and does not try to chase—he is just curious and wants to be friends! Marty will need a patient family who will help him work through the scary things and be there to give him lots of love and encouragement!

Isaac

Isaac5 1 Sweet Isaac is enjoying life at the ranch after spending his life in laboratory research. This six-year-old is a staff favorite and bonds quickly with his people - he really loves to jump up for hugs and kisses. He has recently discovered what fun tennis balls are, as well as the satisfaction of carrying around as many toys as he can fit in his mouth! Isaac is still nervous about being around men, as he hasn't had many in his life, and we are working with him every day. His new family will need to be patient and willing to show him that he can have many people who love him, including men. Isaac would love a doggie sibling, and is good around cats. He hopes his new family will continue to show him all there is to love about life!

Sparky

Sparky2 Sparky is a little guy with a big personality! This six-year-old boy loves to race around the yard with his buddies, take naps in the sun, and is learning how to play with lots of fun toys. He makes us laugh when he tries to walk on his back two legs, and he can't get enough of giving the staff his sweet kisses. Having spent his life in laboratory research, Sparky is now learning what living is all about! He is looking for a home that can teach him about all there is to enjoy - from walking on a leash, to having fun at a park, or just the simple joy of sitting in someone's lap. He still gets nervous in new situations and will need a little time to learn that new people are OK, but he is making progress every day. Sparky is fine with cats and loves to play with the other dogs. He would really love a doggie sibling or the ability to have play dates.

Penelope

penelope If you are looking for a lap dog, a constant companion, and a snuggle-buddy, Penelope is your girl! This playful little dog is sugar and spice – with a hint of sass thrown in. Penelope is currently living with eight other dogs of all shapes and sizes, but she will push past all of them to claim her rightful place in your lap. She is full of energy and loves to run and play in the yard with the rest of the dogs, but at the end of the day all she really wants is to be with her people. For Penelope, the only thing better than snuggle time is food time, and you better believe that she would never miss a meal. She would do great in any home with lots of love to give and lots of time to cuddle.

Chuck

chuck This spunky boy may be almost four years old, but he has a zest for life that rivals any puppy! Chuck is a happy, friendly, and confident dog who is looking for an active family who can keep up with him. He loves to romp in the back yard, chase toys, and play with other dogs – even the really big ones! And after play time is over, all he wants to do is snuggle in your lap and be the center of attention. Although he is still learning the ins and outs of living in a home, Chuck has settled in very nicely here at the ranch and we know that he can do well in a forever home. We think that Chuck would really enjoy having canine companionship in his new home and would benefit from having a patient, easy-going dog to learn from.

Wanda

wandaWanda is a sweet, shy girl who will need the right family to help her come out of her shell. It took a little while for her to show her true personality here at the ranch, and her new family will have to be patient and understanding while she figures out that everything will be OK. We promise that it is worth the wait, though! Wanda likes to hang out with her Beagle roommates, and we think she would enjoy a relaxed canine companion in her new home. She can be playful, but she also enjoys nap time and usually sleeps through the night. She is still learning how to walk on a leash and the complexities of being housebroken, but we know that in the right home she will get over these hurdles with ease. At five years old, this girl is a great combination of youth and maturity – though anybody who knows Beagles knows they never quite grow up!

This sweet Coonhound has come a long way since her first day at the ranch, when she was the last to leave her kennel and wasn't even sure if she wanted to be pet. Now she's living the high life in a great foster home where she is learning all about how fun being a dog can be! Ella is very gentle and sweet, her foster mom sa

Ella is currently living in a foster home in Parker, CO.ys, but is still energetic and loves to run around the yard. We think she would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard and would really enjoy having other dogs to play with. She is crate-trained and is learning how to share with the other dog in her home, although she still thinks chew bones are best enjoyed alone. She is very affectionate and loves to get attention, and her foster mom says, "She curls up at my feet at night if I am watching TV. If I sit on the floor, she is pretty much in my lap." She is loyal, loving, and smart, and would make a great addition to any family who can be patient while she works through the things that are still a little scary. Ella is doing wonderfully in her foster home, but now it's time to find her forever home!

Shiela

shiela Sheila is a big ball of energy in a little Beagle body. This energetic five-year-old can be a little shy at first, but once she gets comfortable she will keep you on your toes with all of her antics. Sheila loves to explore all around the yard and would do best with a securely fenced-in play area where she can run free. She likes to play with her Beagle roommates, and will play with the bigger dogs, too, if they are calm and respectful. We think she would enjoy having canine companionship in her new home. She loves to collect toys and is still learning how to share with the other dogs, so her new family will need to be patient and work on this with her. Shelia is a champion sniffer, and will find even the tiniest of food crumbs that may have been dropped or missed. This little firecracker will make a great addition to almost any home that has the time to work with her and the love to give.

Molson

molson Molson has a lot of love to give and he can't wait to give you some! He is one of the first dogs to greet staff in the morning with a happy smile. He is a low key, snuggle bug kind of guy who is looking for someone to follow around. He loves to give hugs, and because he is larger than a typical Beagle, he is able to stand on his back legs and put his front legs around you. Molson has discovered how much fun his new bones and toys are, though he is working on learning to share his favorite things with the bigger dogs. He loves hanging with his beagle buddies for a nap or a good game of chase. We love this 4-year-old's sweet kisses and kind demeanor. Molson would do well with or without a canine sibling and could live with cats. We know the right hug-loving family is out there and we can't wait for them to find him!

Justine

justine This spunky girl may be the oldest of the bunch, but you would never guess it! At six years old, Justine is as friendly as they come, and she is always ready to greet visitors with kisses and a whole-body wiggle. Although Justine spent the first years of her life in a research lab, she has a love for life that can't be tamed! She loves to meet other dogs and new people, and acts as the big sister to her Beagle roommates. Justine's favorite part of the day is mealtime, and sometimes when she thinks no one is looking, she even tries to steal the cat food! She is quickly learning that doing what she's asked earns her yummy treats and she would love to find a home where they teach her all kinds of fun things she can do for goodies! She is still learning how to walk on a leash without being too nervous, but with the right patient person we know she can be a star. Justine is already comfortable spending time in her crate and is working on housebreaking, and we think she would make a great addition to almost any kind of Beagle-loving home.

Chandler

chandler Chandler is a true puppy as he just turned one year old in January. He is having an absolute blast running in the yard, discovering new toys, and enjoying the sunshine. He reminds us of Tigger from Winnie the Pooh as he has quite the bounce to his step. He is always just a hop, skip, and a jump away from making the staff members laugh. This little guy absolutely loves playing with the bigger dogs and thinks everything is a fun game. When he is all done burning off his abundant energy, he can often be found cuddling inside another dog's kennel. Though a bit shy to people, Chandler is learning that it is okay to receive love and pets from the staff. He has discovered the joy of chasing a ball and is quickly getting the hang of walking on a leash. He is very social with the other dogs and would do best in a home with a canine sibling and a big yard to play in, and would also love trips to the dog park or day care!

Bodie

bodie At almost 4, this gentle guy has a quiet and calm personality. Cutie pie Bodie loves his people and is quite the snuggle bunny. He loves cuddling with staff on the couch at night to watch a movie. He recently discovered the joy of chewing on a bone and believes it to be one of the greatest things on earth. Bodie has the softest coat and ears, and we can't get enough of rubbing his belly. He likes to stay close to the staff whether outside exploring the yard or learning to walk on a leash. Bodie would do well with or without a doggie sibling and would be good with cats. All that matters to him is having a nice family who will give him all the love and affection he can get!

This tall, handsome boy is Copper, and he i€™s here to steal your heart! At just over a year old, Copper still has a lot of puppy left in him, and he will need a family who can keep up! He’s looking for a hiking buddy, a ball-thrower, a full-time ear scratcher, and a kind and understanding family who will give him all the love he deserves! Copper spent most of the first months of his life in a research facility, so he is still learning all about living in a home, but is a smart boy and it should not take long for him to get the hang of it. Copper enjoys playing in the yard with the other dogs, but sometimes he can get a little too rambunctious. We know he would enjoy canine siblings in his new home, but they would need to be able to be patient with him while he is still learning his manners. Copper would love nothing more than to have a family to spend all of his time with,€“ could that be you?

If you like hounds, you wi€™ll love this boys€“ long ears, big voice, and a beautiful red and brown coat that stands out in a crowd. If you’re not sure how to pronounce his name, just ask him€“ Rooooooo! Roux is a little on the shy side and takes some time to warm up to new people, but we know that in the right home he can learn to trust. He loves to play with other dogs of all shapes and sizes and would really benefit from having a canine buddy to learn from in his new home and having spent most of the first months of his young life in a research facility, Roux has a lot to learn! This athletic boy loves to run, jump, and climb. He would fit in wonderfully with an active family that shares his love for the outdoors, hiking, playing ball, and a good game of tug-of-war. He would love a doggie sibling to play with or trips to the dog park where he can be social and make some best buds. But don't worry- Charlie takes time out of his busy day to shower the staff with a good snuggle and enjoy an ear rub - one of his favorite things! After a hard day of play, he can be found snuggled up in a blanket grunting and snoring with happiness. Charlie is hoping his new family is out there, just waiting to take him on an adventure!

Atlas can be shy with new people and needs some time to trust, but with lots of love and positive reinforcement we know he can learn just how great people can be! Knowshon

knowshon At 11 months old, Knowshon is still very much a puppy. This smart, energetic boy does best when he's busy – whether taking walks, playing at the dog park, or learning new things. Knowshon is currently in foster where he is learning how to live in a full house, with two human brothers, an older canine sister, and a cat who is teaching him respect. Because he spent most of the first months of his life in a research lab, everything about living in a house is new to him, but his foster mom says he is doing well: "He can now do stairs, go outside without me taking him, responds to 'come' pretty well. He has conquered fear of his reflection, washing machine and TV." He is also learning basic commands and how to properly walk on a leash. Knowshon would make a great addition to any active family who can put in the time and give him the exercise and attention he needs.

Knowshon is currently living in a foster home in Lafayette, CO.

Homer

8

Homer is definitely the class clown here at Kindness Ranch! At only a year old, this 90-pound boy can be a lot to handle, but we know he can learn his manners quickly. He loves to romp and play in the yard with the other big dogs and seems to like to leap into the air – whether over a bump in the ground or over another dog - and since he’s all legs and head, it is quite the sight to see! He has been friendly with all of the new people he’s met (even the vet!) and shows a lot of interest in new dogs, though his rambunctious nature and size have kept him from playing with the little ones so far. He is getting comfortable with his crate, and will usually curl up and sleep through the night without a fuss, and he also took to walking on a leash fairly easily. He can get a little shy in new places, but since he spent many of the first months of his life in a research lab, this is to be expected. With some TLC and experienced, confident adopters, Homer will make an amazing family pet that will turn heads everywhere he goes!

Thelma

thelma1 Thelma is a friendly, happy, and energetic three-year-old girl who loves her best friend Louise, but certainly has a personality all her own. She loves to spend time outside, and can often be found in the yard checking things out all by herself, even when everyone else is in. She can be quite nosy and likes to see what everyone else is up to, and likes to be part of the excitement. She seeks attention even though it is still a little scary, and would thrive with a family who can be patient with her and give her the time she needs to be comfortable. You sure can get on her good side by throwing a tennis ball around, which is also great exercise to help her lose some of the weight she gained as a part of a dog nutrition study. She would love to find a home with her BFF Louise – they're a ready-made pack.

Louise

Louiserunning2To call this girl spunky would be a huge understatement! Louise is always right in the middle of the action – she is the leader of the pack, the boss-lady, the instigator. She was the first out of her crate when arriving at Kindness Ranch, the first into the snow, and the first to use the doggy door. She is very outgoing and friendly, and is the first one to greet you or ask for attention. She is very enthusiastic about meal time, but because she is a bit overweight from her time in dog nutrition studies, her diet will need to be monitored closely. Her love for running in the yard and chasing after tennis balls should help keep her in shape, too! Louise can be pushy, even bossy at times, and needs a family that has the patience and time to teach her good manners. Her and her BFF Thelma are a perfect pair and want to find a home together! Everybody knows that beagles are better in packs, anyway!

Gracie Noelle

gracie1 Gracie Noelle started out as the quiet, reserved one of her bunch, hanging back from the crowd and exploring the yard by herself. But underneath that compact, calm exterior is a little firecracker waiting to show her true colors. At just under three years old, this girl can be playful and bossy, and your whole neighborhood will know when something’s going on – what a howl! She is still a bit apprehensive about receiving affection, but she’s learning to trust and will need a patient family to give her the time and space she needs. We’ll give you a hint, though – she can’t turn down a treat! Because she was used in dog nutrition studies, though, the treats and her meals need to be carefully managed so that she can lose some weight. Of course, daily walks and play time in the yard will help, too! We are happy to get her started on this journey, but when the right person comes along that can see through her tough-girl act and give her a forever home, we will gladly send her on her way!

Holly may have been the last girl to venture out of her kennel when first arriving at Kindness Ranch, but she has come a long way since then. This almost-three-year-old playful girl can often be found bouncing alongside one of the other dogs, trying to get someone to play with her. She loves to run in the yard and always wants to see what everyone else is up to. Holly is also a flirt, showing a lot of interest in her male roommates, and would very much enjoy having another dog in her new home! She is still a bit shy around people, but will come around if you are gentle with her, so she needs an understanding family that will be patient and give her the time she needs. Because she was used in dog nutrition studies, she is a bit overweight right now, but with all the running around she does that shouldn't be a problem for long! Holly will make an amazing addition to any family, so hopefully they will find her soon!

Max

adopted-max Max was adopted on 6/18/2011

Max is a true hound but is very loving, gentle and enjoys lots of cuddles on the couch. He came back to Kindness Ranch after his adoptive family could no longer care for him because of a job relocation. He is now walking wonderfully on his gentle leader and is ready to find his true forever home. Max loves the company of canines of all kinds, but should not be in a home with cats and other small animals.

Mac

adopted-mac Mac was adopted on 3/8/2011

Mac is from the Professional Laboratory and Research Services (PLRS) lab. PLRS was closed after the United States Department of Agriculture seized more than 200 animals from the research company in North Carolina. This followed an independent undercover investigation of violations of the Animal Welfare Act.

Mac went into foster care and then adopted into a home, but was returned for behavior issues. The foster caretaker contacted us to see if we could take Mac and help him further in his recovery and with his behavior issues. He was flown from Florida on Pet Airways and arrived in January 2011. He was “reunited” with Ruby who was also from the PRLS lab and they have become fast friends. Mac is doing well and in good spirits, learning doggie etiquette and taking it all in stride! Mac likes both men and women but cannot be placed in a home with children.

Cherry on Top

adopted-cherryontop Cherry on Top was adopted on 10/10/2010

The Kindness Ranch is a place where animals bond with people, and often, with one another. Take Chester and Emily.

Recently, lucky Chester was adopted from the Kindness Ranch by Thomas Collins and Yvonne Divita, of Frederick, Colorado. They’d been considering introducing two dogs into their home in a dog-friendly neighborhood, so adopting another dog from the same place as Chester “was a no-brainer,” Tom and Yvonne reported.

Delightful young Emily is also a hound dog, and is buddies with Chester. She is a rambunctious 2-year-old with an expressive face. Emily’s new guardians report she is keeping them on their toes: She considers the leash a tool to pull Tom along, and she thinks she should get all the treats first. But, Chester seems happy to share his new home with Emily. An older dog, he may need to stay active longer with Emily around!

Over the last few days, Emily has embraced her forever home. She bolts upstairs to see what her new family is doing, then bolts downstairs to check on the cat, runs around the dining room to see where Chester is, checks on her food bowl, and dashes outside again. Emily even ran into the sliding glass door because she had never encountered one before.

It’s wonderful to see our dogs bond with one another and head into a life of love with a new family to cherish forever. Congratulations, Emily, on your new home! Tom and Yvonne thought they had it all with Chester and their cat, but Emily has proved to be the cherry on top!

Pepper

adopted-pepper Pepper was adopted on 10/5/2010

A new life filled with adventures began for Pepper this weekend. After more than seven years in a research setting, Pepper has found his forever home with Kathy Brent and Vern Smith of Longmont, Colorado. Pepper is joining his new family at a particularly wonderful time. Both Kathy and Vern have retired from traditional jobs, and now they are heading off on a working adventure in Alaska. And, of course, they are taking Pepper with them!

With his love for sniffing, walks, and cuddles, Pepper will undoubtedly be thoroughly pleased with the adventure and time in the camper with his new family. Kathy loves morning walks, and Pepper will be accompanying her on a daily basis.

Despite his lack of experience in traditional homes, Pepper seemed to feel very comfortable with Kathy and Vern. He went back and forth between each of them for cuddles. You could tell he felt a growing attachment to them. The new environment didn’t make him nervous. It was as if he could sense how much the couple wanted him to be a part of their lives.

Kathy and Vern caringly prepared for his arrival. A new bed awaited him in one area of the living room. In another area of the living room, a cushy down comforter was on the floor with a dog treat on top. With great interest, Pepper checked out his new yard and happily made friends with the neighbor’s dog.

As with several of our recent adoptions, we found Pepper’s new family thanks to our partnership with Longmont Humane Society. Given our rural location, we have arranged for a couple of our dogs at a time to visit Longmont Humane for short periods. The increased visibility helps them to find their forever homes. We retain ownership of the animals and all adoptions go through us.

We couldn’t be happier this partnership worked another miracle, this time for Pepper!

Chester

Visited by Angels!

According to Yvonne DiVita, she didn’t know there was a big hole in her life until Chester, a seven year old former research hound, became a part of her family. Yvonne and her husband, Tom Collins, adopted Chester from Kindness Ranch recently. The joy Chester brings them, Yvonne says, is “overwhelming.”

During the past seven days, Yvonne and Tom introduced Chester to their home. Chester was puzzled by the sliding glass door and ran into it a few times. It took some encouragement for him to go up the long flight of stairs to their bedroom. It didn’t take him long to learn the kitchen is where good smells and treats come from. He has already chosen a favorite spot in the sun near the sliding glass door. At night, he sleeps by the Tom and Yvonne’s bed.

Chester was especially thrilled when Yvonne and Tom introduced him to the rest of the family, including their children’s dogs, Twiggy and Onyx (a greyhound and a pit bull mix). The dogs raced around the yard, thrilled to have another friend. Check out Yvonne’s blog to read more about Chester’s new life.

We found Chester’s new family thanks to our partnership with Longmont Humane. Given our rural location, we have arranged for a couple of our dogs at a time to visit Longmont Humane for short periods. The increased visibility helps them to find their forever homes. We retain ownership of the animals and all adoptions go through us.

According to Yvonne, having the love of a pet is like being visited by angels. Certainly, that is how we feel about the sanctuary residents at Kindness Ranch. We are thrilled Chester has found his forever family.

Isabella

adopted-isabella Isabella was adopted on 9/22/2010

Hound Heaven!

When Isabella arrived at the ranch, we immediately learned two things make her absolutely joyful – cuddles and pillows. Now, if you cuddle her while she is on the pillow, life is absolutely heavenly to Isabella. In fact, when visitors and staff came to pay attention to Isabella, she would frequently run and leap onto her pillow so she could experience both favorite activities at once. This weekend, Isabella, formerly used in teaching and research, was adopted by Nigel and Jacqueline Aves of Longmont, Colorado. Having had a life long love for hounds, they knew just how to prepare for Isabella’s arrival.

Isabella was overjoyed by their welcome cuddle, introduction to her own fenced in yard with shade and flowers, and, yes, her very own large pillow. She seems not to even mind her new 18 year old cat friend, Bonkers (supposedly appropriately named, but he was quite pleasant in our presence).

Isabella was purpose bred for research and then used in teaching and research for three years. Students walked Isabella during her time at the university. While at Kindness Ranch, she would greet visitors and staff with great friendliness. Her desire to have a special family was patently obvious in the way she would press her body into your leg on a walk.

Isabella will delight in the attention to be found in the Aves home. Nigel and Jacqueline have flexible schedules, and someone is almost always home. Nigel has always loved hounds and has owned four over the course of his life. Both Jacqueline and Nigel were deeply saddened by the recent loss of their last hound due to old age. Together, they understand and appreciate the hound qualities that make them endearing companions, but also a breed that is more vulnerable to following their nose and getting lost. Hounds are intelligent dogs who often have a mind of their own.

Congratulations, Isabella, Nigel, and Jacqueline! Thank you for providing love and companionship to a Kindness Ranch dog.

Casey

adopted-casey Casey was adopted on 9/18/2010

New Beginnings!

With a wag of the tail, Casey, a golden retriever hound mix, began his new life yesterday with his loving family, the Berkelhammers of Louisville, Colorado. After three years in teaching and research, Casey seemed to immediately sense the gentleness of his new family members, and he explored his new home with great curiosity upon arrival. He settled onto their couch and against Sara, the Berkelhammer’s 13 year old daughter, with a look on his face of pure pleasure. Casey’s adoption was facilitated by a wonderful new partnership with Longmont Humane Society that helps our animals to get more exposure to potential adopters.

Kindness Ranch is located in rural Wyoming. The nearest large city is two hours away. As summer turns to fall, it can be challenging to bring the public to our animals for adoption purposes. With the help of Longmont Humane Society we are bringing our dogs for short visits to the more populated area of Longmont to increase the likelihood people will see our dogs and adopt. We have reserved two dog “suites” at the shelter. We are thrilled that Longmont shares our commitment to valuable partnerships to help animals.

Within a week of coming to Longmont, Casey met his new family. The family came together, saw Casey, and immediately knew he was the one for them. Fred Berkelhammer is looking forward to having a hiking partner. Sara and her mother are already planning on enjoying an obedience class with Casey as part of the bonding experience. Within an hour of Casey’s arrival, the family was happily taking him on a walk and helping Casey to feel at home.

Ginger

adopted-ginger Ginger was adopted on 7/25/2011

Tough Decisions!

The Martin family came to Kindness Ranch in the hopes of finding a special new addition for their family. They live close to the sanctuary on a ranch of their own, and have helped with a sanctuary dog in the past. Knowing of their love for animals, staff members collectively held their breath wondering if Sabrina, Matt, and their twins, Whitney and Bailey, would fall in love with one of the dogs. It turned out to be a tough decision given how many sweet dogs we have, but the Martins felt a very special connection with Ginger, a four year old hound mix previously involved in teaching and research at a major university. From Ginger’s posture and playfulness, it was clear she felt the same.

After the decision was made, staff members went to the Martin’s home to see how things were coming along. Ginger was calm and happy sitting next to Matt’s feet. She followed Whitney around the house, and appeared to enjoy a very special sunny spot in front of sliding glass doors. The whole family was gathered round, happily watching Ginger settle into her new life. Despite the newness of the people, her first car ride to their home, and the different environment, Ginger looked like she felt a growing sense of belonging. The Martins seem to have the special touch that Ginger needs.

We have no doubt that Ginger will enjoy being a member of this kind and caring family. Ginger has a great love for playing with balls and rolling in the grass. She adores cuddles and attention with a passion. At the Martin’s ranch, long walks, balls, and lots of petting are clearly in her future.

Athena

A Wish Fulfilled!

I wish I may, I wish I might….wish for a loving home, land to run on, a comfy couch all my own, and lots of toys, toys, toys! Oh, and treats! Today, Athena, an energetic pointer mix and former pet food tester, had all her wishes granted. After a humorous home inspection involving Athena and the shredding of a white fur rug, we knew the perfect match had been made.

Athena came to the ranch almost two years ago. She is a beautiful pointer cross with boundless energy and a love for people, but not really other dogs. It made her a bit of a challenge to adopt out. With the wonderful help of behaviorist Aimee Sadler and her terrific colleagues, we spread the word far and wide about Athena.

Raymond and Jeanette Davis of Grand Lake, CO learned about Athena. They had been looking for a dog for awhile, but not seen the right one. They had a dog of similar breeding to Athena in the past, and fell in love with her immediately. Right away, they expressed their interest in Athena.

Karen Straight, Co-Director, and Tammy George, Animal Caretaker, drove out to the Davis house with Athena to do a home check. They were touched immediately by the welcome sign for Athena hanging cheerfully from the garage door. The privacy of the house and the beautiful seven acres abutting more land is heaven on earth for a dog like Athena. But most importantly, Jeanette and Raymond demonstrated gentle caring and love.

Not long after we entered the house, Athena disappeared upstairs. After five minutes, Tammy suggested we check out what she was up to. To our horror, Athena had destroyed a white fur rug. It was like a movie set with white fur flying everywhere and Athena still in the middle destroying the last tidbits with great enthusiasm. “Oh, my!” said Tammy. As Karen dragged Athena off the rug, both Tammy and Karen thought that was the end of the adoption.

As everyone went back downstairs, Raymond whispered to Tammy, “I never liked that rug anyways.”

“Would you like some cake?” Jeanette asked us.

We all smiled. Of course, we would like some cake. As we completed the adoption papers, Athena checked out the magnificent views of the expansive property from every window possible. She hugged and kissed her new family members. She jumped on a red chair. Raymond said that he had been trying to get rid of the chair, but now it could be Athena’s. As she dragged up a toy onto the chair, it was evident she agreed it would work out just fine.

It is the perfect match.

This adoption would not have happened without the help of Aimee Sadler and her colleagues. We so appreciate their commitment to finding the perfect home for animals.

Heidi

adopted-heidi Heidi was adopted on 7/10/2010

Heidi's Roadtrip Home!

We couldn’t ask for more for sweet Heidi. Last night, a wonderful retired couple drove all the way to Kindness Ranch from Washington to adopt this precious 15 pound former laboratory beagle. As previous beagle owners, Walter and Virginia Wood were on the look out for a very special new addition to their family when they saw photos of Heidi on the web. They knew at that moment their search had ended. Within four days of the approval of their application, they set out on the long drive to the ranch to formally adopt Heidi and bring her home.

While small for her breed, Heidi exudes personality. She is precious and cuddly, but will happily take on much larger dogs in energetic play. Having spent the first two years of her life in a laboratory, she seems excited to have new experiences with people and in the outdoors. As a new member of the Wood family, she will have many such opportunities. Walter will take her on daily walks on lovely trails, one near the ocean. She will enjoy summers in Washington and the rest of the year in sunny California. Most importantly, she will be showered with love.

Donald

Donald Goes Home!

With smiles all around, Kevin and Jamie Martinico and their daughter, Nicolle, welcomed Donald, a beagle basset mix, into their family. After learning about Donald via Petfinder, the family journeyed with their rescued dog, Jackson, to the ranch for an overnight stay to get to know Donald. It was love at first sight. Much to the Nicolle’s delight, Donald chose to sleep with her the first night.

Donald, whom Nicolle called Mr. D, is a very sweet beagle basset mix who came to the ranch at the beginning of February. He had been at high risk of being given to a Class B dealer and sold into research in Michigan. His sweet and gentle nature and calm disposition makes him an ideal companion for a family with children.

The Martinico family lives in Lakewood, Colorado. During the day, Donald will enjoy running around a neighborhood lake with Jamie as well as a great deal of companionship. Kevin works from home as a pre-sales engineer and Jamie works part time for a beverage company.

Donald’s new doggy companion, Jackson, is a shy Eskie mix that will likely benefit from Donald’s easy going nature and love for fun. When Jackson first met Donald at the ranch, he was a bit fearful. But after a few play bows and kisses, Jackson began to melt and warm up to Donald. By the end of the visit, Jackson was prancing around the family, including his new buddy.

While at the ranch, the family took the dogs on walks and went to visit the cats and other sanctuary residents. Hopefully the visit will be the first of many!

Angel

A Home For An Angel!

Sanctuary resident Angel, a whippet mix, met her special person today. Birgit Fowler Burke of Laramie, Wyoming saw Angel’s picture online and fell in love. From this day forward, Birgit says, Angel’s life is going to be filled with cuddles, couch time, and music. After six years in teaching and research, Angel is starting a whole new life with a very special person.

As Birgit is a musician and university library employee, Angel will now enjoy a comfy couch while listening to Birgit play the mandolin, guitar, and mountain dulcimer. Her new friends will be two cats, some birds, and the dogs of Birgit’s musician friends. She has a fenced yard to enjoy at her leisure.

The match appears to Birgit to be a perfect one. From the way Angel relaxed on the couch next to her, it seems she would agree. Birgit is a devoted animal lover who has helped out many animals in the past. She is looking forward to introducing Angel to new activities and giving her lots of love.

Connie

bunny-at-park Connie was adopted on 12/9/2009

Queen of the Mountain!

Connie, a beagle, is one of Kindness Ranch’s founding animals and longest residents. Today, Connie is celebrating her formal adoption into her forever home in Boulder, Colorado. We couldn’t be happier for her! While her new life is filled with treats and love, it wasn’t always that way. Connie was rescued from a Missouri puppy mill that bred beagles for research. She came to the ranch when the puppy mill was shut down by the local sheriff due to its deplorable conditions.

Former employee, Jill Bielawski, began fostering Connie early this summer. Mornings filled with snuggles, camping trips, and constant company have proven impossible to give up. What started as a foster home has now become a life-long commitment.

When Connie first moved in with Jill, she was a bit shy. It didn’t take long, however, before she befriended the two resident bunnies. Connie is now nicknamed “Bunny” as she comes when the bunnies are called. Meadow the rabbit particularly loves being close to her and follows her around.

connie-in-snow Prone to separation anxiety, Connie enjoys being by Jill’s side most of the time. Fortunately, Jill works from home. Connie has claimed a favorite blanket on the couch and enjoys comfortable naps.

At other times, Connie will venture out into Boulder with Jill. She walks well on a leash in town, is becoming accustomed to “city life” after the ranch, and even accompanies Jill into stores and dressing rooms. During the summer she camped out in a tent and went out for dinner and drinks at outdoor patios in Boulder.

When Jill and Connie return home after being out for a walk or errands, Bunny zooms to the door and jumps up and down, then leaps up on the couch. She also acts like a puppy after baths, which she accepts good-naturedly. She enjoys running through the snow and greeting the many other dogs who live in the neighborhood, including a young beagle down the hall. She is eager to please and always comes when called, unless she’s completely absorbed in a scent, of course.

Connie has discovered new tastes. She has become rather a connoisseur of vegetarian delights. In addition to her meals, Connie likes sweet potato treats, quinoa, vegetables, peanut butter and beans.

connie-in-bed At night, she’s a great snuggler and is good at sleeping in, although she snores like someone much larger than her 23 lbs. In the morning, Jill and Connie have a ritual in which Connie rolls around on her back and gets a belly rub. Life is filled with love and creature comforts. Congratulations, Jill and Connie!

Bruce and Wiley

Road Trip!

A new retiree, Debra Severson of Indiana came to Kindness Ranch to volunteer for six weeks as one of her first post-work adventures. As any animal lover might predict, she and her husband, Steve, are going home with much more than memories. After several sleepovers, Debra and Steve fell in love with Bruce and Wiley.

dsc06028 It has been a long journey for Bruce and Wylie. They came from Montcalm Animal Control in Michigan. They were at risk of being picked up by a Class B dealer and sold into research. With the help of volunteers in Michigan, we brought them from the pound to the ranch in the spring. The beagles adjusted well to life on the ranch and bonded tightly with Debra. We have no doubt they are thoroughly enjoying the road trip home to their new life in Indiana!

Bruce and Wylie will be treasured members of the family. Debra’s devotion to animals was evident every day during her six week volunteer stay at the ranch. Her husband, Steve, has a special spot for beagles as well. When their last beloved beagle, Rosie, was ill with cancer, he drove her two hours each way for treatments several days of the week.

Bruce and Wylie came to the pound in Michigan separately. They made a long journey together from Michigan to Wyoming and now to Indiana. They became good friends and now are part of a family. We know this last leg to their forever home will be filled with fun and love.

Back for Boots!

At the end of August, a lucky sanctuary dog name Jack found a wonderful new home with Kyle Sampson, Dianna Bennett, and their two children. Jack settled into life so well with the family that they came back for his favorite playmate, Boots!

Boots, a smart and gentle Catahoula mix, showed up at the ranch back in the spring along with her brother. A few scars and her significantly underweight body hinted at her experiences surviving with her brother. She and her brother immediately took to gentle Jack, a large yellow lab. Together, they could spend hours chasing each other around the yard and playing tug-of-war.

Boots and Jack will now enjoy spending their days together the family’s children. Kyle works at his family’s ranch where Boots and Jack will both get to stretch their legs during the day. For two active dogs, life with this loving family is definitely heaven on earth!

We will miss you, Boots!

Jack

Jack's New Family!

This weekend, a special namesake lead one of our sanctuary dogs to his new home. When Dianna Bennett of Wyoming searched online for pets, the name “Jack” caught her eye. Her son is named Jackson, her husband’s middle name is Jack, and her father-in-law also holds the same name. But most importantly of all, her beloved pet, now deceased, was named Jack. After searching extensively online and in shelters, Dianna knew she had found the one when her eyes rested on Jack.

Dianna and her husband, Kyle Sampson, came with their two young children to spend the night at Kindness Ranch and get to know Jack. Jack was an immediate hit with the kids as he enjoyed both Doritos and playing ball. He laid in three-year-old Jackson’s lap with all the gentleness an 85 pound lab can muster. Jack fit into the family like it was meant to be.

Jack came to the ranch while at high risk of being pulled from a shelter in Michigan by a notorious Class B dealer. He would have been sold into research. Everyone that meets Jack falls in love with him. He is incredibly gentle, tolerant of even the most boisterous of puppies, and he loves to lean into a good cuddle.

As we waved goodbye to Jack, we knew we would miss him. However, he couldn’t have gone to a better home. Dianna is an attorney who prosecutes those who abuse animals. The family has taken care of many strays over the years. Jack will spend the days at the family ranch Kyle manages or playing with the kids at Grandma’s house. While we are so happy to have been part of Jack’s journey, we couldn’t be more pleased that he has found his permanent family.

Meet Ziggy's New Family!

Erin Hoffman saw Ziggy at an adoption day at Petco in Fort Collins. It was love at first sight. Days later, she brought her daughters to meet Ziggy at the ranch. Ellery, as you can see from the photo above, took to Ziggy right away. They bonded over graham crackers. Ziggy was a perfect gentleman with the two children, and seemed to greatly enjoy being involved in all their activities. After a home check, Ziggy was formally adopted by Erin and her husband, Ted. Ziggy is in love with his new family.

Ziggy came to us from a university research facility. The trend in research is euthanasia. But the researchers involved in his care chose to break with precedent and release him to Kindness Ranch. We wish others would follow their lead to make more happy stories possible.

Harley

adopted-harley R.I.P. Harley on 5/19/2009

Harley led a life full of variety and spent his final years at the sanctuary. Never very friendly to other dogs, he loved people and — until the end — always had a friendly bark and fast wag of his stubby tail for his two-legged friends.

Old age finally got the better of him and in October 2011 Harley left us. Below describes who Harley was. Sweet dreams, old friend.

For Harley, a gentle soul of 14 years, heaven is a gentle hand, a raw hide, and a blanket. He is a German Shepherd mix who wags his nub of a tail with sweet enthusiasm in response to attention. He adores hanging out with people and brief walks. Harley spent much of his life in pet food research. Now at home at Kindness Ranch, he seems to take great pleasure in the comforts of home. He would like nothing more than a special family to give him the love he deserves. He does not get along well with other dogs so he enjoys his own private yard and room.

Daisy

adopted-daisy Daisy was adopted on 5/2/2010

A New Beginning

Who could resist Daisy’s beautiful brown eyes? Certainly not Patricia Taylor and her husband, Burke Grandjean, of Laramie, Wyoming. Patricia, a professor of sociology at the University of Wyoming, came to meet Daisy on Friday. Upon arrival, we brought Daisy out from the dog home to introduce her to Patricia. As if she knew Patricia had come for her, Daisy walked right up, leaned back, and placed her front paws on Patricia’s knees. She then checked out Patricia’s car and started to get in. There was no doubt in Patricia’s mind that the fit was right, and she adopted Daisy shortly thereafter. Since then, Daisy has become a much loved part of her new adoptive family.

Daisy came to the ranch with Donald a couple months back. Both were in a Michigan pound that releases dogs and cats to a notorious Class B Dealer. The dealer then sells the animals into research. Staff at the facility felt Donald and Daisy were both likely to go to this dealer. Donald has since been adopted by a loving Colorado family.

At home in Laramie, Daisy loves to get up in the recliner with Patricia. She carefully squeezes her body into the space available. Patricia makes her toys from socks, and Daisy catches them in the air. According to Patricia, she almost seems to laugh as she trots off with the toy.

Even more interesting, however, has been her new friend, Jackson. Jackson is a large Alaskan Malamute. Daisy has introduced him to the joys of barking at squirrels, and the two are fast becoming friends.

There is one habit of Daisy’s, however, that Patricia and Burke are getting used to. Over the last two days, they have noticed some unusual behavior. Daisy has pushed her head under a bookcase several times. Then, suddenly, she will have an animal cracker. Today, Patricia gave her an animal cracker. Daisy waited until Patricia turned away. She then went over to a big chair, dropped the craker, and pushed it under the chair with her nose.

It seems Daisy knows to treasure a good thing when she has found it. Likely, she feels the same way about her new family. According to Patricia, “We are all attached now, and we love her sweet soul.”

If you would like to welcome a new cat, dog, pig, horse, or sheep to your family, give us a call!

Andy and Kathy are dog LOVERS. When their beagle recently passed, they found Kindness Ranch. Andy visited the ranch last week and immediately bonded with Boxer.

You can tell it was a perfect match when Andy looked at Boxer and said “Boxer you are winning my heart” as he had a HUGE smile on his face! Boxer became apart of his family 3 days later! He know has a very loving fur-family and a new brother!

Tulo

Tulo 1 Tulo is a very social, active and sweet little beagle, always wanting to engage in play. Tulo has a mild case of OCD, from being in the lab for 8 years, he would do best in a very active household with lots of things to do, then he does great.

He is leash trained, enjoys his walks and does well around small children.

tulo 2

He came to Kindness Ranch with four other beagles in early September. He is 8 years old and was used in a PK study (Pharmacokinetic (PK) studies, PK studies are used to test human drugs in dogs to determine how fast the drug is absorbed.)

Todd

Todd (right) with his friend Oliver Todd is 6 years old and a sweet guy. He is shy at first with people he does not know, especially men. Once he warms up, he is a love bug and enjoys snuggling!

Due to his cautious nature with new people, it is not certain how he will behave with younger kids. He generally barks with all new people, but never shows signs of aggression.

Todd and Oliver are brothers, and have been together their entire lives, we are hoping they can stay together if all possible!

Todd (and Oliver) were used in a nutrition pet food study.

Ricki

ricki-finds-the-ball Ricki is a 2 1/2 year-old female beagle. She gets along well with other dogs and loves to play with her ball. Ricki is very sweet, but still a little shy until she gets to know you.

ricki Ricki was used in two pharmacokinetic (PK) studies when she was younger, but hasn’t been in a study in over a year. PK studies are used to test human drugs in dogs to determine how fast the drug is absorbed. The test can be as short as 48 hours during which blood is drawn several times a day.

She was recently used by a vendor of the lab’s to demonstrate a new EKG vest, which accounts for Ricki’s shaved patches. Her fur will grow in as she grows in her new life at Kindness Ranch!

Griffin

Gouda Griffin has demonstrated on occasions that he should be Top Dog and is very impressed with himself.

He has a great personality with people but would probably be best in a home without another dog.

Although social with the others he quickly tries to establish dominance.

Gordon

gordon 1 Gordon is a very mellow kind of guy. He also can be shy until he is comfortable with you.

gordon He is a very loving beagle and has a very gentle expression that reflects his sweet personality.

Gordon gets along well with other dogs and children.

He came to Kindness Ranch with four other beagles in early September. He is 8 years old and was used in a PK study (Pharmacokinetic (PK) studies, PK studies are used to test human drugs in dogs to determine how fast the drug is absorbed.)

Gandondorf

gandonorf 1 Gandondorf is a very smart, friendly and outgoing little beagle.

Ganondorf He came to Kindness Ranch with four other beagles in early September. He was the first one in the group of dogs he came with to discover and use the doggie door and ramp.

He is 8 years old and was used in a PK study (Pharmacokinetic (PK) studies, PK studies are used to test human drugs in dogs to determine how fast the drug is absorbed.)

Ben

forge 1 Ben quickly became known as “Gentle Ben”. He is very kind and affectionate. Ben sometimes cocks his head quizzically and looks straight into the eyes of a person as if he’s trying to figure out a difficult homework problem or silently communicate all the love he has to offer- a message we have received. Sweet Gentle Ben.

Winona

Winona 1-e1369779436794 Winona was adopted on 7/19/2013!

Winona first came to us very frightened and submissive. She had a great fear of the crate, especially of being shut in. She has now learned it is not a place to fear and scoots in easily.

The door has been left open for her and she sometimes ” tests” it- not quite believing she can go and go at will. She will ” put herself to bed” without fuss and the door quietly closed. She enjoys quiet one-to-one time with a person, often curled at the person’s feet.

She plays well with the other dogs but has sometimes been over enthusiastic with AJ. Better in a single dog home or with another male.

Penny

penny

Penny is a 12 year old Coon Hound mix. She is very friendly and loves attention. She does have a touch of arthritis and hypothyroidism.

Penny was used in a pet food study.

Penny-Oliver She does well on walks, but is more than happy to just lie around getting attention.

She does well with other dogs and children.

Oliver

Oliver Oliver is a 6 year old beagle mix and was used for pet food study. He had a knee replacement in 2010, which doesn’t stop him from enjoying his walks.

Oliver 1

He is shy with new people, but warms up quickly if you sit on the floor and wait patiently.  He doesn’t like to be forced into a kennel, but will choose to sleep in one at night or nap in one in the afternoon.

Molly

molly Molly was relinquished to Kindness Ranch on two occasions. The first time, the person had her four years and was unable to care for her any longer. The second, was from a local family that loved her dearly, but due to circumstances beyond their control they were forced to return her.

Molly was used to test stents in her neck and came to us very skittish. She still can be skittish at times with certain people. Generally she is very sweet and enjoys attention.

She's an independent girl but loves playtime with her doggie-pals. She walks well on leash. She doesn't like to be chased. She will alert you to any happenings around the home, she's definitely a diligent watch dog. She kennels nicely at mealtimes and likes to be outside most of the day, and prefers to sleep outside under the stars.

Larry

Yarfy 1 Larry was adopted on 08/12/13

Larry 1-340x226 Larry Finds Fur-Ever Home in Colorado. Another happy ending at Kindness Ranch!

Yarfy ( aka Larry) is a 2 year old male. He is very boisterous and if anything is going on, guaranteed Larry will be in the center of it. He is very sweet, loves attention and is very active. He would be been suited in a home with a lot of activity and outdoor exercise. He gets along well with all the other dogs.

Jed

jed 1 It’s all about Jed! He’s a 6 year old beagle that is retired from a pet food study in Pennsylvania.

His first day at Kindness Ranch, he was the star of the show, it didn’t take him long to begin in play, romp and greeting everyone with a HUGE smile and howdy! He was grinning floppy ear to ear! Jed had us all laughing like crazy at his goofiness, what a character! There is no doubt in my mind, Jed will be adopted right away!

Jed is an active boy who would love an active home!  He has lots of energy, so he would be best suited in a home with children.  He loves to play with other dogs and would love a doggie companion.

Jed He is attention seeking, loves being petted and is all about running the length of the yard in the morning.  He needs a little work on not pulling on walks, but he doesn’t try to take off, his beagle nose is just going a mile a minute with all of the smells. He will kennel when asked and chooses to sleep in a kennel at night. He’s high energy, so a home with an active lifestyle or some children to run him around would be perfect.  He would also do well with a canine companion to spend some time burning off all of his energy.

Libby

libby Kindness Ranch Facebook Star Libby Finds Her Fur-ever Home: Libby came to Kindness Ranch in late June from a research lab in Northern Colorado, she was previously used in a PK study.

She arrived at Kindness Ranch without a name, in some cases the labs will give dogs nicknames while they are in the lab. So, being “nameless” we posted a naming contest on our Facebook page over the July 4th holiday weekend. In a overwhelming response and show of support, and some very great suggestions for naming this sweet little beagle, our awesome fans selected Libby (short for Liberty) as her new name!

This past weekend, Libby found her fur-ever home in Colorado with Bernie, his daughter and their fur-kid “Disco.”  They have re-named her Lilly!

Libby-adoption 1-333x250

They are really happy with Lilly, and she is adjusting well in her new fur-ever home.
Another success story, happy beagle and fur-family!
