Thank you for your interest in fostering for Kindness Ranch Animal Sanctuary!
Fostering an animal in need is one of the most gratifying and selfless things you can do as an animal lover. Because our ranch is situated in a remote location, it is important for us to network outside of our area to find our animals permanent, loving homes. Foster homes are a vital part of this outreach, as they are not only teaching valuable skills that increase an animal’s adoptability, they are also able to showcase our animals in locales that would otherwise be difficult for us to reach.
Witnessing an animal’s emotional growth in a foster home is endlessly rewarding. While it can be difficult when it comes time for them to move on, you can take great satisfaction in knowing that you gave them a boost up when they needed it the most. The animals at Kindness Ranch can be especially challenging because they usually have come directly from research facilities where they have not experienced all the comforts of home, rarely have any basic training, and often don’t even know how to walk on a leash. This makes the experience of fostering one of our animals that much more fulfilling, albeit more trying at times. You would never be in it alone, however, as our staff and experienced volunteers are always ready to offer support and advice.
Our expectations for our foster families are simple. First and foremost, we ask that you treat the animal as if it were your own, in that you provide them with a safe, nurturing environment where they can experience all the joys of having a place to call home. Each animal will have different needs (physical, medical, and emotional), and there will be certain recommendations or restrictions for some, so we will need a commitment from the foster family to follow the guidelines provided for an individual animal. We will rely on a foster family to provide us with regular updates (and photos!) concerning the animal’s progress in the home so we can ensure our care plan is still meeting their needs. This also helps us to make appropriate suggestions when potential adopters contact us.
If the foster family is willing and able, we also encourage you to help promote your foster animal through social media, advertising websites, and around your local area to help increase their chance for adoption. In addition, we appreciate when a foster parent is willing to conduct home visits, when deemed necessary, for potential adopters, though this is not a requirement.
Finally, it is of the utmost importance that our foster families believe in Kindness Ranch’s mission and values, and that they are helping us to build a positive reputation in the community through their volunteer work in our name.
