Pigs at Play

Pigs at Play

Thanks to the arrival of Katie Pruett and Rebekah Barnett of Massachusetts, summer just gets better and better for the pigs at Kindness Ranch! The pigs – Bernadette, Simone, Geraldine, Antoinette, and Louise – are thrilled to have a new swimming pool with interesting toys and treats set up by the girls.

Katie and Rebekah, both 16, are here at the ranch for a 10 day internship. Both care greatly about animals and wanted the opportunity to work closely with them. Upon arrival, they were asked to choose a special project for some of the animals. As they had never worked with pigs and they know how intelligent they are, they chose to do a pig enrichment project. After some web research, Katie and Rebekah ordered a Kiddie Pool, balls, Kongs, and other toys. They filled the pool with water and stuffed the Kongs with produce. They added toys and peanuts to the water. The project was an immediate hit with the pigs!

During their time at the ranch, Katie and Rebekah have worked with all the animals. They have taken two cats, Chevy and Y2K, and two dogs, Jack and Connie, for sleepovers on separate occasions. Athena has come to their yurt for day visits after long walks. They have brushed and fed the horses and helped with numerous cleaning projects. Thanks, Rebekah and Katie! We couldn’t do what we do without people like you!
