Fabulous Firsts!

Welcome Heidi, a 15 pound beagle! She is one of our newest arrivals. Heidi spent the first year of her life in a facility that breeds purpose bred dogs for research. She spent the second year at a research facility. Heidi is the first animal this research institution has released to Kindness Ranch, and we are delighted to build this relationship. Now at the ranch, Heidi is experiencing some fabulous firsts of her own. From walks and peanut butter filled Kongs to new smells, Heidi is transitioning with joy to her new life!

After time in a research facility, it can be a bit scary to go on a nature walk with all of the new sounds, sights, and wide open spaces. After all, it is very different than an institutional setting. Heidi, however, took to the walk very quickly after a bit of encouragement. Matt Farwell, Co-Director of Kindness Ranch, took extra care in introducing her to the new experience. In no time, she was romping through the grass.

At first, she didn’t seem to notice the new smells. Then she came across a particularly appealing grassy spot. From then on, it was as if her olfactory senses were working in over drive.

After the walk, we introduced Heidi to yet another wonderful first — a peanut butter filled Kong! She thought that was pretty interesting.

However, for Heidi, nothing is better than cuddling and human companionship. In not too long, we suspect Heidi will be welcomed into her first home and her own loving family.
