A Place in the Sun

A Place in the Sun

Back in March, Emily Draper, a University of Colorado at Denver student, came to Kindness Ranch with several other students for an alternative spring break program. Within days, she fell in love with Stormy, a 10 year old soft black cat. She spent hours on end holding and cuddling affectionate Stormy. Emily left the ranch with a heavy heart as she could not adopt Stormy due to her living situation with other family members. As the months went by, Stormy stayed in her heart and mind. Just weeks ago, Emily made plans to move into her own home in Aurora, Colorado complete with a sunny window seat. As she packed her bags, she filled out the adoption application for Stormy. She lovingly picked out a cat bed for Stormy and placed it in the window seat in anticipation.

Stormy, a ten year old cat, was used in pet food research. He has been at the ranch for nearly two years waiting for his perfect family. Always affectionate, he is very partial to comfy pillows and blankets.

Upon arrival at Emily’s home, Stormy checked out the food and water bowl then happily settled into the cat bed on the window seat. Sun showered down on him as he stretched out in the bed. He purred while being groomed and showed every sign of deep contentment with his new environment. His purrs grew louder as Emily lovingly nuzzled his face.

Emily is a natural caretaker and lover of animals. She grew up in a house with six kids. Prior to moving into her own home, she lived with her sister and her husband helping to take care of her two nephews. As long as she can remember, she has had a pet. From dogs and cats to ferrets and pigs, Emily has a love for animals of all shapes and sizes. From the moment he stepped in the door, Stormy seemed to sense he had finally come home.
